Regional cultures

Punjab

Punjabi language, poetry, folk music, farming traditions, embroidery, food and seasonal celebrations are important parts of Punjab's cultural landscape.

Sindh

Sindhi traditions include ajrak and Sindhi topi, regional music, handicrafts, Sufi heritage and distinctive foods and festivals.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Pashto language and poetry, traditional music, hospitality, embroidery, crafts and regional cuisine form part of the province's diverse cultural heritage.

Balochistan

Balochi and Brahui traditions include distinctive embroidery, textiles, folk music, oral poetry, cuisine and community customs.

Gilgit-Baltistan

Mountain communities maintain languages, music, crafts, foodways and festivals shaped by the high-altitude environment and long regional histories.

Azad Jammu & Kashmir

Kashmiri, Pahari and related traditions include regional languages, embroidery, music, cuisine, woodwork and celebrations.

Islamabad Capital Territory

Islamabad brings together people and traditions from across Pakistan, alongside its own modern civic, artistic and educational life.

Languages and literature

Urdu serves as a major national language, while Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashto, Balochi, Saraiki, Hindko, Brahui, Kashmiri, Shina, Balti, Burushaski and many other languages are spoken across Pakistan. Poetry, storytelling and oral traditions remain important ways communities preserve memory and identity.

Food and hospitality

Pakistani cuisine varies widely by region. Biryani and nihari, Punjabi saag and makki di roti, Sindhi dishes, Balochi sajji, Pashtun meat dishes, Kashmiri preparations and the foods of Gilgit-Baltistan illustrate only part of the country's culinary diversity.

Arts, crafts and living heritage

Truck art, ajrak block printing, embroidery, pottery, woodwork, weaving, calligraphy and regional musical traditions are examples of creative practices that connect contemporary life with older forms of craftsmanship.
