Bannu District

Bannu is the old market town of the southern KP plain, on the road that goes on toward Lakki Marwat and the Waziristan districts. The city is small next to its villages. PBS 2023 counted only about 48,400 people as urban and 1.31 million as rural. That is why a Bannu page that only describes the bazaar is half a page.

District total: 1,357,890 people, 183,130 households, area about 1,972 km². Literacy 41.75 percent overall — 58.47 percent for men, 23.84 percent for women. Pashto is the language of the plain. The district website is bannu.kp.gov.pk.

Three names that come first

1. Bannu city / Bannu tehsil — the tehsil itself holds 644,909 people. The municipal town inside it is much smaller. University of Science and Technology Bannu and Khalifa Gul Nawaz / DHQ teaching setup sit here.
2. Domel — 224,428 people in the tehsil. Large clustered villages, not a second city.
3. Baka Khel — 192,797 people. Lower literacy than Bannu tehsil in the 2023 table (about 28 percent).

• Bannu — 228 km², 644,909, literacy about 49.5 percent.
• Domel — 425 km², 224,428, literacy about 41.4 percent.
• Baka Khel — 367 km², 192,797, literacy about 28.3 percent.
• Miryan (Meryan) — 141 km², 166,473, literacy about 31.8 percent.
• Kakki — 66 km², 92,021, literacy about 42.6 percent. Smallest area, dense villages.
• Wazir — 745 km², 37,262, literacy about 16.3 percent. Former frontier-region belt; largest land, fewest people.

One public village directory counts about 393 rural localities across those tehsils (Bannu tehsil alone about 148). This page names the heavy settlements that already sit in that 2023 list. It does not reprint 393 rows.

Miryan and Baka Khel have their own village lists on the same pattern. Wazir tehsil is a long list of small settlements on a large map. Send a kally name if you live there.

Schools and the hospital

UST Bannu is the university name on the degree. Government colleges sit in the city. The teaching hospital cluster (Khalifa Gul Nawaz / DHQ) takes cases from Lakki and the nearer Waziristan road. Female literacy at 24 percent is the line that belongs on this page next to any list of colleges.
